Terry was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2015.
Terry served in the U.S. Army in West Germany for two years after graduation. He received his B.S. Business degree from Omaha University (now UNO) in 1957 before joining U.S. Rubber Co. in Omaha. The company name changed to Uniroyal and he moved with it to Pittsburgh, PA. When the name changed again to USCO Distribution, he moved with it to Orange County, CA where he stayed until the company was sold in 1990. During his career advancements, he was awarded Distribution Manager of the Year as well as sales honors at USCO. He then started Terry Bowman Group of Logistics, which he owned for 15 years until selling his successful business in 2008. He retired in Laguna Niguel, CA. His community service includes Laguna Niguel Chamber of Commerce and YMCA events; fundraising for South Coast Medical Center-Laguna Beach; and Clean the Beach project (pick up trash) in Orange County; Feed the Homeless in Pasadena, CA; Thanksgiving and Christmas Operation Christmas Child; and International Costa Rica Cross Cultural Solutions program. In Cartago, Costa Rica, he helped repair play structures at a home for disadvantaged children. Terry appreciated the education and long-lasting friendships he received from his SHS school years. He enjoyed being a hall duty captain and a member of Student Council. He also was President of the YMCA Intercity Fun Night Council. He said he never missed a day of school in his four years at SHS. He played football until an injury before senior year and he played baseball at SHS as well as Legion Ball for two years for H.P. Smith and Metz teams. His sister, Irene (Bowman) Astleford-1949, is also in the SHS Hall of Fame. He loves world travel especially being in Red Square in Moscow and driving through Mexico in an old van. He scuba dived in Bora Bora, zip lined through cloud forests of Costa Rica and deep-sea fished in the Sea of Cortez. He also jumped from an airplane at 13,000 feet. |
