1942-Monsinger Richard Wolbach passed away last August. We celebrated his life’s accomplishments just three years ago when he was inducted into South High’s Hall of Fame.
1949-Al Martinez, Sr. passed away last November. He was a remarkable man, who touched so many. One of his many honors was being inducted into the SHS Hall of Fame in 1997.
1950-Chris Saklar, one of our original board members, passed away in October. His obit confirmed: “Chris was so very proud of his South Omaha roots (a true “SOB” – South Omaha Boy)” He definitely was a great SOB and South High supporter.
1952-Robert ‘Bob’ Urban and wife, Jan, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary 10-1-20.
1952-Shirley (Rocek) Anderson’s biography/memoir is available from Amazon in paperback and e-book versions. The title is Poverty, Virginity & Love: Memoirs of Asia and Other Places.
1955-Eileen (Gibbons) Ludlow writes: I always enjoy my copy of the Tooter. This time I felt the need to tell you how much I enjoyed your article on Packer Centenarians. Of particular interest was the interview on Aliene (Kelpe) Hammer. I so appreciated her story. Her secret to living and advice was positive and refreshing. 
1958-Bob Stone celebrated his 80th birthday by snow skiing in Telluride Colorado.
1959-Ron Eissler celebrated his 80th birthday 8-20-20.
1960-Sharon (Barry) and Ron Eissler-1959 celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary 8-27-20. 
1965-Buddy Hunter has a book being written about his time with the Boston Red Sox-11 seasons of pro baseball (1969-1979) during which he played in 22 games.  Written by John Fey, Buddy shares stories of playing along side some of Boston’s all-time bests and being mentored by Ted Williams. The title of the book is “Who is Buddy Hunter? (And what is he doing in my bed?)”.
1967-Dan Park and wife Kathleen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Dan is semi-retired working in the engineering business.   
1968-Judy (Carr) and Terry Comstock-1968 celebrated 50 years of marriage. A celebration will be held at a later date.
1970-Dianne (Trawicki) and John Zuroske celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary 10-27-20.
1971-Cherri (Zvolanek) and John Setlak-1969 celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  Their love was born at South in room 310 (the gym at that time).
1972-Connie (Powers) Kompare has made and donated 12 quilts to veterans. She also has made and donated hundreds of masks. 
1976-Frank Gahl writes “Last spring I published my second book, Mercy Ai and also won the Sirisys Prime Book of the Year for my first book published in 2019,  Adventures with Ai - Age of Discovery.  Both books are available on Amazon, they are under my pen name, Rico Roho.   
1976-Carole Safley retired 9-1-20.  She was with Douglas County Sheriff’s office for 25 years, and at Omaha Police Department for 14 years prior to that.
1980-Doug Nodgaard was named to the Board of Directors of Equitable Bank. With over 36 years of banking experience he joined them in 2013, most recently holding the position of Community Bank President-Omaha. He was inducted into the SHS Hall of Fame in 2017.
1988-Kathi Hoit-McDermott was inducted into the Metro Omaha Softball Hall of Fame. From 1983-2003 she played on several local top women’s and co-ed slow-pitch teams including Omaha Thunder, Big Red, That One Team and Wahl Optical.  Her Wahl team won several women’s state and regional titles and traveled to compete in nationally, where she earned multiple all-tournament awards.  Defensively she played every position and was a power hitter, with a .750 career batting average.
1992-Leonardo ‘Leo’ Salinas celebrated his 50th birthday on November 22nd.
1993-Tracy (Foral) Casady has been elected to serve another term on the Omaha Public Schools Board of Education for Subdistrict 9 - South Omaha and Downtown.
1999-Jeremy Sczepaniak has returned to the halls of South, this time as a teacher.  He attended Metro and UNO and will be teaching Physical Education-Ballet & Jazz.
2009-Isela Serrano Flores is another alum who has returned to South. She is working in the main office. 
2010-Manny Lira, a Packer Sports Great, signed a professional contract with the Union Omaha Soccer Club last August.
