Maurice was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2013.
Maurice Wade earned six letters in track and basketball at SHS. He was a member of the undefeated 1960 basketball team that won State. That team was recently inducted into the Nebraska Sports Hall of Fame. In 1961, Maurice was the leading scorer in the Inter-City (Omaha/Council Bluffs) All-Star team and was a member of the All-State basketball team. He was a member of the track team that won Inter-City and Conference championships, and that team was runner-up for State in 1958 and 1959. After graduation, he was the second leading basketball scorer in the nation with 30.5 points per game average while attending Luther College. His team won the Conference championship, District Championship and reached quarter-finals in the National Tournament. He received Honorable Mention on the All-American Team. Maurice worked at Ralston Public Schools and Encore and is now retired. |
