Mike was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2019.
Mike was an All-State football player as well as an all division player both his junior and senior years. He was nominated and played in the 1983 Shrine Bowl. He was an All-State baseball player and all division player both his junior and senior years. He was selected to play in the Collin-Orcutt All Star baseball game his senior year. Mike was one of the top players in the Omaha All American College Baseball League. Mike played baseball while at Iowa Western Community College; he then attended Fort Hays State on a baseball scholarship. He was drafted by the Pittsburg Pirates, where he played for three years, fulfilling his lifelong dream. After baseball he worked for Hawkins Construction for 24 years. He then changed his career and currently works for BNSF Railroad, traveling through the beautiful countryside. He married his high school sweetheart, Kari, and they have two children. |
