Kelly was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2017.
Kelly earned 5 letters while at South, three in football and two in track. He played in the metro championship football games his junior and senior years. South won both games. Kelly held the school record in receptions until 2015. He is still ranked as third in total receiving yards. Kelly currently holds the school record for the longest punt return for a touchdown – 63 yards. As a junior, he was selected to the All-Metro and All State first teams, and again as a Senior he was selected to the All-Metro Team, and received honorable mention on the All-State Team. As a senior, Kelly became an All American by Hammer Publications. After graduation, and a short stay in Utah, Kelly went on to Kearney State College. He worked at First National Bank of Omaha for 15 years and is now employed with Quality Brands of Omaha where he’s worked for 22 years. Kelly is married with three children. He has officiated and umpired in youth, high school and college football and softball. He became the assignor of officials in all youth, freshman and JV football, basketball games while working for the NIRA (Nebraska, Iowa Referee Association). Later, he became the varsity basketball supervisor for the Metro and River City conferences. |
