Patrick was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2004.
Patrick lettered six times at SHS, three in Football and three in Track. For Football in 1976 he won Honorable Mention All City; in 1977 he was All State, Team Captain, Most Valuable Player, and All City. In 1978 he received the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame’s Outstanding Athlete and Academic Excellence Award and South High’s Outstanding Senior Football Award. In Track he was a State meet qualifier for the Discus in 1978. He played football for four years at the United States Military Academy (West Point) and earned three letters. Pat was selected as a Permanent Professor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership at the United States Military Academy. He was Battalion Commander of a 521 man organization in the 101st Airborne Division, and the 101st Airborne Division Combat Veteran and Bronze Star Recipient. He has published numerous articles on Artillery Tactics and Leadership. Pat received the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara Award, which is the highest honor bestowed by the Field Artillery Community for outstanding contributions throughout a career. Sweeney was selected as Distinguished Member of the 320th Field Artillery Regiment. He has earned two Master’s Degrees and he is working on his Doctorate Degree. He has also been very active volunteering in church and school activities, and well as for several mentoring programs. |
