Morton was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2001.

From Marine Corps jet fighter pilot in Korea, to New York banker, to General Motors executive around the world, to conservationist on a Cass County farm, Morton has led an extraordinary life.  He dropped out of Washington University in St. Louis to enter the Korean conflict.  Following his service, he completed his baccalaureate degree at Iowa State and followed that with a Fellowship at Yale University before joining Bankers Trust of New York.  In 1965, Morton started a 22-year career with General Motors beginning as a management trainee and continued with service in Lima, Peru as Acting General Manager, in Tokyo as a member of Isuzu's Board of Directors, and in Bangkok as Managing Director of the Bang Chan Assembly Company. 

He finally returned to Detroit to oversee the financial management of GM's largest division, the Engineering and Manufacturing Services Staff, with a budget of $1 billion and a staff of 5,000.  He ended his General Motors career as a manager of the GM/EDS Integration program.  Morton then became active in Nebraska's conservation movement through work with the Wachiska Audubon Society of Southeast Nebraska, the Lincoln/Lancaster County Ecological Advisory Committee, the Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society and as the president of the Nebraska Audubon Council. 

In his spare time, Morton sung with the Abendmusik Chorus of Lincoln, the Omaha Symphonic Chorus, Nebraska Choral Arts Society, and the Seattle Symphony Chorale.

Morton passed away in 2015.
