Vic was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2005.
Vic Shukis lettered in baseball, basketball and football at SHS and also wrestled. His outstanding football career honors included All City and All State, as well as receiving the Kiwanis Club Recognition of Excellence in Athletics Award, and being named to the Meredith WOW All Star Team, the Brandeis All Star Team, and the Omaha World-Herald Athlete Roll of Honor. Vic played for the Omaha Mustangs, a semi-pro football team later in his career. His baseball career included playing catcher for the Columbus Georgia pro team where he batted .309 his first year, then the Brooklyn Dodger Farm Club, Pueblo Colorado as a Class A Western League baseball player. He also played fast pitch softball for many years in Omaha’s best softball leagues. He was an outstanding athlete in football and baseball and opponents have referred to Vic as one of Omaha’s finest high school players in the 1950s. |
