Louis Secora was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2015.
Louis earned nine letters at SHS, four in baseball, two in football, and three in wrestling. He was All-State in wrestling in 1963 at 145 lbs., and he finished third in 1964 at 165 lbs. He was named All-City in baseball in 1963, and he earned Honorable Mention in 1964. He was co-captain of the football team and played offensive guard and defensive end his senior year. Louis has been honored by the Omaha South High Packer Sports Greats Hall of Fame four times in the past as a member of the 1962 baseball team, 1962 and 1963 wrestling teams, and the 1963 football team. Louis served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968 in the Army. He traveled to Monterey, Mexico, with Bobby Herrold, who had played professional baseball there before becoming the UNO baseball coach. They both instructed kids in baseball clinics from 1991 to 1994. Louis also coached 14-year-olds in baseball at Sts. Peter and Paul School in 1962. The team won the summer league city championships. He also coached a ladies’ softball team to a city championship in 1983. Louis worked 27 years, including his service time for the Veterans Hospital, as a carpenter, mason, drywall installer, and plasterer. He retired in 2006. |
