Jackie was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2022.
Jackie graduated in 1961. She is one of several from her family who also attended South. Her father, Henry Schultz graduated in 1940; her Aunt Midge Bray graduated in 1946; and her brother, Henry Schultz graduated in 1969. Jackie received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education with minors in Religion and Spanish from UNO. Jackie was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority at UNO. Jackie had a 30 year teaching career. She taught at Madison, Ashland Park and Field Club Elementary schools. She also taught summer school at South Lincoln and Corrigan. She has also acted as the Children Christian Missionaries Administrator at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church for six years, and taught Sunday school and summer Bible school). Jackie is a founding member of the South High School Alumni Association. She has served as an active member of the organization for 30 years, chairing various events and volunteering to help on many, many activities. She has been the chairperson for her 1961 Reunions. She has been a member of Job’s Daughters, and was elected their Honored Queen and Guardian, received their Eastern Star and was a Guardian for five years. She has also participated in the Susan B. Komen Cancer Events, helping with the booths and walks. She is also a member of the OWLS – (Older Wiser Lutherans Committee). This committee prepares activities for people 60 years and older. Jackie has also volunteered at Prairie Meadows with her granddaughters for Sunday activities. Jackie has two children and six grandchildren. Jackie stated that her time at South helped develop her personality. She became more athletic through GAA activities and received the Queen of Athletics at their May Fete. She also met her mentor, Joanne Placek Sokalsky at South. She also gained many dear friends, as she calls them, “her South High Gals.” |
