Rich was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2019.
During his sophomore year, he was selected as the outstanding sophomore for academic and extracurricular achievement by the Exchange Club of Omaha. He was also named as an “honorable mention” for the all-metro baseball team. His junior year, he was acknowledged as an academic all-metro for baseball as well as “honorable mention” for the all-metro football team. During his senior year, he was selected as the National Scholar Athlete awarded by the US Army Reserves; named to the all-state baseball and all-state football teams; and selected to participate in the annual Shrine Bowl. Richard was also selected as team captain for both the football and baseball teams at South. Overall, he received five letters for his baseball and football careers at South. Richard was also member of the National Honor Society while at South. Richard attended UNO and was named as a distinguished military graduate. After college, Richard began his 25-year military career. He was deployed to Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq. He was awarded two bronze stars during his career. Richard retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army. |
