JULIE (RIHA) DIEHM
Class of 1966
Inducted in 2022 |
Julie was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2022.
Julie graduated in 1966. After graduating from South, she took her bookkeeping education from South and turned it into years of success. With her husband, Ed, she was co-owner of E & J Drywall for 40 years. She also worked in HR and accounting for Hans Heating for 25 years and handled the bookkeeping/accounting for Riha Farms for 30 years. Julie was active in the 4-H program, being a leader for 15 years. She served on the 4-H Council and Extension as the secretary for the County Fair Superintendent, she was a PTO Book Fair Chair, a room mother for 13 years, library volunteer for 13 years, and was an after-graduation party volunteer for Papio/LaVista High. She has been an active volunteer at St. Mary’s Church for their fundraisers. Julie has also hosted foreign exchange students; one from Greece, three from Costa Rica and one from Mexico. She helped fundraise and hosted 60 4-Hers on a trip to Washington, D.C., and organized the group to help clean highways, the Mormon Cemetery, and plant trees at Midland’s Hospital. Now in her spare time, Julie has been an active member of the SHS Alumni Association for 19 years. She was elected as a Vice President in 2009 and then took over as Treasurer in 2014, going above and beyond in that capacity. (Especially true when it comes to saving money with her many trips and rebates from Menards). Julie has always been one of the first volunteers to step up and help with ALL the alumni events. She was the chair of our annual Teacher Appreciation “goodie bag” giveaways. As everyone can attest, “Julie runs rings around the rest of us!!” Julie is stepping down and FINALLY slowing down a little to spend more time with her family. She has been an absolute joy to work with, and an incredible asset to the success of the association. Julie comes from a large family of six brothers and five sisters. She is married to Ed Diehm-1965. They have two children and one granddaughter. She says that she is very thankful for the friends she made over her 4 years at South. She is also thankful that her high school counselors guided her in the right direction for a future career. |
