Allen was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2012.
Allen “Hackett” Philby won five letters in football and wrestling at SHS. He was selected as a member of the “All Opponent Team” by the 1950 State Champions in football. After graduating from SHS he spent three years at Dana College, earning three letters in football and three in baseball. He started for the football team as half-back and linebacker for three years and was an All-Conference linebacker at Dana. He was head football coach at Platte Center and at Emerson, NE. He was assistant football coach at Omaha Bryan and Boys Town under Skip Palrang. He was heralded as one of the “Four Horsemen” on the SHS 1950 football team. His teammate Jerry Korisko described him as an outstanding defensive back. |
