Richard was inducted posthumously into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2017.

Richard earned 7 letters while participating in football and wrestling.   He was a two time State Champion and team captain of the 1959 State Championship Wrestling Team.  He was on the Nebraska State Championship Team and was a member of the nationally ranked wrestling team in 1958 and 1959. He played on the 1958 State Football Championship Team.
