Raymond “Red” Nauslar was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2008 and in to the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2004.
He lettered twice in Basketball and twice in Football at SHS. He was All City and All State for Football 1942. In 1941, Red made a 48-yard field goal, a record unbroken for 50 years. His honors included All City and State Championship 1942; Alex Award 1941 and 1942; Omaha Junior Chamber of Commerce as one of six of the city’s Top Prep Athletes 1941. He was in the Merchant Marines from 1941to1946. Nauslar attended the University of Nebraska and played on the Freshman football squad. After graduation he joined the Merchant Marines to serve his country during WWII. He joined the 7-Up Company of Omaha when he returned from the service, and then later joined Pepsi Cola Omaha as General Manager. After 15 years with Pepsi, he returned to 7-Up as General Manager in Lincoln for 19 years. He ended his 40-year career in the soft drink beverage industry when he returned. His retirement years included raising Texas longhorn cattle and quarter/paint horses - which he describes as a wonderful life. He sponsored and judged DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America); sponsors Wrangler 4-H Club; and is a member of the following organizations; On Deck Circle for Husker Softball at UNL; Chadron State College President's Society, Old Timer's Baseball Association; Missouri Valley Merchant Marine Association; and the South High Alumni Association. He was an inaugural sponsor of UNL Women's athletics. He was recognized in 2004 by the President's Council on Physical Fitness & Sports for advancing fitness and sports. This proud South High Packer also supports current athletes at SHS by donating to the current sports updates at the school. |
