Inducted in 2003 |
Doreen was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2003.
Doreen Moritz has a reputation for helping "at risk" students and advocating for diversity as a high school counselor. She earned that reputation because she was never afraid to "push the envelope" with her peers, her school district and the community. She won the National Education Association Virginia Uribe Award for Creative Leadership in Human Rights, and is now the new Assistant Director of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Ally Programs and Services at UNL. She won the 2000 Nebraska Counselors' Association "Professional Dedication Award" and has built her career working for justice and compassion, and for racial and ethic harmony for the disadvantaged and under-represented students of Nebraska. She has made dozens of presentations around the country covering such topics as bullying, creating safe schools, and prejudice elimination. Because of her work on behalf of gay and lesbian students, D was awarded the OW-H's "Outstanding Teacher Award." Ms. Moritz also works with Habitat for Humanity, and serves on the GLSEN Board of Directors and the National Education Association Diversity Cadre. |
