NAME was inducted into the Packer Sports Greats in 2004.
Mike Montello received seven letters in Baseball and Basketball while at SHS and was a member of the 1937 State Basketball Championship Team. He was an All City Baseball player 1937-39; KOIL All City Basketball team; and All City Basketball player 1939. Mike signed a professional baseball contract with the St. Louis Cardinals and played for their farm team in Houston, Texas. After leaving professional baseball, he played semi-pro baseball with various Nebraska and Iowa town teams, and he also played in the Ban Johnson League in Marysville, Kansas. He played fast pitch softball with some of Omaha's top teams. He umpired both baseball and softball in the Omaha metro area. Mike was also one of Omaha's better bowlers participating in Omaha's best bowling leagues. He competed in the National ABC Bowling tournaments. He was a state bowling champion, once winning the all events scratch division. |
