Dave McMahill was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2015.
Dave earned seven varsity letters at SHS, two in swimming, three in track and field, and two in cross-country (which started at SHS in 1961). He was cross-country state champion in 1962; district mile run champion from 1961 to 1963; Columbus Relays, Dutch White Relays, Inter-City mile run champion in 1963, setting records in each event. He was All-Class state mile run champion in 1963, tying the Class A record. He also played on the unbeaten freshman football team and was a member of the winning Inter-City freshman 880-yard relay team. He was champion in his age group in the AAU Junior Olympics 880 run in 1960 and was second in his age-group in the mile run in 1961. Dave earned his bachelor’s degree in Religion in 1967, a Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary in 1970, and additional graduate credits in Psychology from UNL. He is an ordained United Church of Christ minister with past congregations in Nebraska and Minnesota. He also held other prestigious positions with the church and has published religious books for ministries. He has been involved in youth work, refugee resettlement, other charitable organizations, as well as supporting the arts. |
