MAURICE KATZ
Class of 1929
Inducted in 1997 |
Maurice was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 1997.
Think back to when you were in third grade. Your teacher one day gave each of you a book with strange writing in it. The writing was unlike any you had ever seen--a lot of curly-cues and circles which your teacher made you practice over and over until you finally learned, we hope, the art of penmanship. Mr. Katz has been practicing that art for more then 70 years while teaching hundreds of students in Omaha schools the classic art of calligraphy and ornamental penmanship. He has virtually single-handedly kept the art alive in the Omaha area. In addition to his work in the calligraphic arts, Mr. Katz has been an owner of four food markets, a real estate broker and community volunteer in such organizations as B'nai B'rith, the Nebraska Congress of Parents and Teachers, the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging and the Service Corps of Retired Executives. |
