Bob was inducted into the Packer Sports Greats in 2019.
Bob was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2019. In 1977/78 he was named a high school all American – honored for outstanding achievement in athletic performance, sportsmanship and extra activities for winter sports. Bob lettered two years for basketball in 1978 and 1979. He Earned an All State honorable mention in 1978, and was also an All-Metro selection. He helped lead the Packers to their 1st basketball top 10 ranking in 18 years. He competed in both the 1978 and 1979 Holiday Metro Tournament and was named to the select teams both years. In 1979, Bob was on the top 10 team, rising as high as 3rd in the rankings. He led the Packers in scoring free throws and rebounds. Also in 1979, he was selected as a member of the All-Metro Team, and voted the overall metro’s most valuable player. He also was selected for the All-State Class A team that year. In June of 1979 he was selected to play in the Cager Classic Metro all-star game, and in August of 1979 he was selected to play on the State Coaches all-star team. He was named to the Wayne State Invitational Basketball All Tournament Selection. He was also named to the World-Herald All Time South High Metro Team along with Terence Badgett, Willie Brand, Cedric Hunter and Lee Johnson. Bob accepted a scholarship to Bellevue College and lettered two years before injuries cut short his career. Bob averaged double figures in points in both college years. Also during his South career, he had time to be named a South Omaha Boys Club Boy of the Month in 1978. Bob has spent the past 35 plus years refereeing youth, grade school through high school in football and basketball. |
