Michael was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2023.

High School Honors

• Football (3 letters):
  • Named to the All Metro and First Team All State football teams, as a defensive end
• Track & Field-Shot Put (3 letters):
  • In his senior year, he was undefeated with a 20-0 record
  • Metro & District Champion and Class A State Champion with a 60+ feet throw 

Post High School

• Michael ​received a full scholarship to Iowa University, where earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communications in 1985.
• Played in 4 bowl games: Rose Bowl, Gator Bowl, Peach Bowl and Holiday Bowl.
• Earned Big Ten honors in both 1983 and 1984 for outside linebacker
• Earned Big 10 Defensive Player of the Week twice.  
  • Versus Michigan State Univ. in a 12-6 win with two quarterback sacks and 14 tackles; also earned A.P. Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for that game.
  • Versus the University of Michigan in a 26-0 win with one quarterback sack and 15 tackles. 
• Selected in 1985 by the New York Giants as an outside linebacker.
• He is currently the Director of Risk Insurance for Temperature Equipment Corporation out of Chicago, IL.
• Michael has one son.
