Class of 1959
Inducted in 2015
Judith was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2015.

Judith (Henggeler) Spohr received her B.A. degree in Education and Art with minors in Forensics and English from the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), her M.S. from the University of California at Los Angeles and her M.A. in Psychology from the University of California at Northridge. She was Miss Kearney and runner-up Miss Nebraska while at UNK. She began her teaching career at Columbus High School in Nebraska before moving to teach in the inner-city area of East LA for 37 years. During those years she was recognized as a Master Teacher. She received one of 20 Platinum Apple top teacher awards from United Teachers LA and was nominated twice for the LA Music Center’s BRAVO award for her work in fine arts. She was the first non-Hispanic to receive the Cesar Chavez Lifetime Achievement award, recognizing her contributions in educating Hispanic children. She received UNK’s Distinguished Alumni award. She has been a staunch SHS supporter, funding scholarships and other projects. She is a founding member of Almond Glory, which specializes in gluten-free baked products, and she is co-founder of Kendall Scott Mining and Development. Judy has been involved in commercial and residential property ownership and management for 45 years.

She said that Dr. Kuncel and Mr. Christie made history exciting, Mr. Richards made her appreciate English and Ms. Alice Giiter exposed her to Hispanic culture and language. Mr. Smith, band director, made her baton-twirling experience at football games fun. He also introduced her to classical music and great composers.
