Beau was inducted as a coach into the Packer Sports Greats in 1999.
Beau Haizlip has amassed an amazing record of 238 wins, 97 losses and 3 ties for the varsity wrestling team during his 30 year tenure as head wrestling coach at SHS. His teams have won four State championships, several District, Metro and other team championships. Beau was elected to the Omaha Metro Wrestling Coaches and Officials Hall of Fame, Nebraska State Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame, National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Midwest District National High School Wrestling Coach of the Year, selected as Coach of the Year several times, and was honored with a gold watch by the Nebraska State High School Activities Association for outstanding contributions to the sport of wrestling. SHS also names the South High Wrestling Tournament "The Beau Haizlip South High Invitational". This is fitting as Coach Haizlip served as the Director for this tournament for 40 years. His numerous outside activities included writing articles for local, state, and national wrestling publications including Amateur Wrestling News. He served as President and Board Member of the Omaha Metro Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association and was chosen to run Wrestling rules clinics by the State Activities Association. He has also represented Nebraska and surrounding states in the National High School Wrestling Association Rules Interpretation Board for several years and was chosen as a high school representative on the NCAA Wrestling Rules Advisory Committee. He helped organize and direct many foreign exchange AAU wrestling meets in Nebraska and took a Nebraska All-Star Wrestling Team on a tour of Germany. |
