RICHARD "DICK" GULIZIA
Class of 1961
Inducted in 1995 |
Dick was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 1995.
Dr. Gulizia was the founding president of the South High School Alumni Association. As one of the founders, Dr. Gulizia was one of its propelling forces. Leading the development of the project became a full-time job for Dr. Gulizia who has tenaciously pulled together an alliance of government, business, community leaders and alumni to see the vision fulfilled. Since its humble beginnings following the centennial celebration of the school in 1989, the association has grown to the point in 1995 where it is presenting three $500 scholarships annually; publishing a biannual newsletter, which is sent to the 16,000 alums of South High School; and, in 1995, he initiated a project to build a community athletic complex adjacent to South High property. Dedicated to the memory of H.P. Smith, the complex will be used by youth from around Omaha. He was the association's executive director from 1997 until retiring in 2014. |
