Sam was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 1987.
Sam Greenberg was one of the sons of Philip Greenberg, a Jewish immigrant who came to Omaha from Rumania in 1905. After graduating from South, Sam attended Creighton University. In 1947 Sam and his brother, Henry, took over their father’s store - Philip’s Department Store. Sam was a member of the South Omaha Business Association, served on the board of the Salvation Army and was a member of the South Omaha Optimist Club. Not long after Sam’s death in 1988, Henry closed Philip’s forever. |
