Richard was inducted into the Packer Sports Greats in 2011.
Richard earned a total of seven letters in baseball, football and basketball. In baseball he was named All-Division, All-Metro and All-State. He played in Cornie Collin’s All Star Game, the Omaha World-Herald American Legion All-Star game and was the YMCA Student Athlete of the Year. He received a scholarship to Iowa Western Community College and played on the Region IX championship team. He also played baseball on the back-to-back Lone Star conference championship teams at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma where he received his degree as well as Division II Athlete of the Week honors. In football he was selected All-Division, All-Metro and All-State honorable mentions. Rich is Captain of the Omaha Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau and received numerous commendations including “Crime Stopper’s Officer of the Year” and has held many prestigious local and national elected positions within law enforcement. He is an active volunteer with Boys & Girls Clubs. He coached youth baseball and basketball for more than 12 years and founded the SHS youth basketball tournament for local teams. He has also helped bring soccer and baseball leagues to the South Omaha community for the past seven years. |
