Sally was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2007.
Sally Ganem is the First Lady of Nebraska and has been married to Governor Dave Heineman for 29 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) in 1971 and taught in North Carolina. After returning to Omaha, she earned her Master's degree from UNO in 1975 and served as an elementary school principal in Fremont for 28 years. She retired in 2006 when her husband was elected Governor of Nebraska. She has served as an officer and on committees for the Nebraska Association of Elementary School Principals and the Nebraska Council of School Administrators. She travels about the state to read aloud to school groups as part of the Read Aloud Nebraska Board of Directors. She has served on the Board and as president of Big Brothers, Big Sisters in Fremont, and has held several offices on the state and local levels of the Association of Elementary School Principals, and served on the legislative committee of the Nebraska Council of School Administrators. She served as president of Toastmasters in Omaha and of the Optimist Club in Fremont. She started the School-Business Partnerships and the Education Committee of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce. She also developed and implemented a summer school program as well as a full-day kindergarten program in Fremont and served as administrator of the Early Childhood Program in Fremont. |
