Eddie was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2006.
Mr. Galas is the owner of Eddie's Catering at 24th and "O" Street in South Omaha, and a new location in Millard called Eddie's Millard Social Hall. Galas started the catering business in 1952 when he was 21 years old, and called it Eddie's Bar & Cafe. Over the years he has been involved in and contributed to the community through his membership and past presidency of South Omaha Optimists Club, Membership in American Legion, D.A.V., Eagles, VFW, South Omaha Sokols, and the Polish Home. He served as a member of the Omaha City Personnel Board for six years. He has been honored to receive the Restaurateur of the Year Award, and the South Omaha Merchant of the Year Award. He states that he was one of 17 children, of which 14 attended SHS. He did everything early including attending summer school to graduate early, having his mother sign for him so he could get his first car early, joining the Navy early and marrying early. Galas attributes his success as a businessman to SHS, and that success enabled him to raise seven kids. |
