Coach Fischer was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2002.

Coach Fischer coached football from 1955-59. Those years included the only two state high school championship teams that ever came from South High.  Before coaching at South he played football at Nebraska and went on to play one year of professional football with the New York Giants.
