John was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2005.
John DeGeorge participated in football, wrestling and baseball while at SHS. His outstanding wrestling career garnered such honors as 133 lb. SHS Invitational, North High Invitational, City/Metro, District and State Championships, and Nebraska/Iowa High School All-American honors. At UNO he placed fourth in the National Wrestling Meet his Freshman year, and narrowly lost to a National Champion his Sophomore year. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in education with emphasis in K-12 Physical Education from UNO, followed by his Masters’ Degree in Administration with emphasis in Secondary Administration. His teaching and wrestling coaching career began at Millard Public School where his teams had 17 individual state champions and an 85-33 record. In his next four years at Creighton Prep, they had 5 individual state champions and a 28-8 record. During his year at Cathedral High School, they had one individual state champion with a 1-8 record. He spent the last six years of his career at Omaha Gross and had 11 individual state champions and a 47-2 record. |
