Don was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2003.
Don was a basketball and baseball player at Omaha University, and received a Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben scholarship. He was inducted into the Omaha University Hall of Fame and the Greater Omaha Sports Committee honored him with the “Service to Sports Award.” He tried out for the NBA with Milwaukee and was an AAU National Tournament player. Don was an assistant coach for baseball and basketball at Omaha University, coached Mainelli Midget football teams, and was a Legion Baseball coach for Phillips and Coca Cola. He also was a basketball referee for high school and college. He played baseball in the Pioneer Night League and Platte Valley League and coached many baseball teams in the Omaha area. |
