General Carmona was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 1987.
He began his military service in July 1962, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army at Omaha. He advanced to the rank of Sergeant and in 1964, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant Field Artillery Officer. He served two years in Vietnam as an adviser and artillery battery commander. After his discharge as a Captain in August 1974, he returned to Nebraska and joined the Nebraska Army National Guard in January 1975 where he began his duties as a Race Relations/Equal Opportunity Operations Officer. He was promoted to Major and reassigned as Communications and Electronics Officer. He was promoted to Inspector General and in 1982, became an Assistant Director of Administration. General Carmona was promoted to Major General (Nebraska) and appointed Adjutant General Designee for Nebraska on September 2, 1983, assuming command on November 1, 1983. He has been awarded numerous service decorations. General Carmona is affiliated with the National Guard Association of the U.S., the National Guard Association of Nebraska, and the American GI Forum. |
