Mike was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2011.
Mike earned six letters, three in football and three in track. In football he was named 2nd team All-State as a sophomore; 1st team All-State as a junior and led the state in rushing; 1st team All-State and team Captain his senior year. He was included in Parade Magazine’s top 100 football players in the country his junior and senior years. In track he was state champ 4 x 100 relay his sophomore, junior and senior years; 3rd place 100 yard his junior year; and metro conference champion in the 100 yard dash his junior year. He was a member of the track 400 and 880 relay winning teams his junior and senior years. He was starting I-back on the freshman team at the University of Nebraska, but his career was cut short due to a knee injury in the fall of 1975. Mike served 20 years in the National Guard before retiring. |
