​Inducted in 2002

​Vernon was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2002.

Vernon lettered all fours years at South in wrestling and had several nicknames, including: Curly, Scrubby, and Shirley Temple. After high school he was All Military Wrestling Champion and just missed the Olympic Trials.​
