Lon was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2016 and the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2017.
Lon participated in baseball and football while at South; receiving 8 letters and being named to the All-City and All-State football honors his senior year. Lon was Principal at Ralston Middle & High School for 36 years. He received his BS and MS degrees in secondary education from UNO with honors. Prior to joining the Ralston School District, he held other positions, including teaching and coaching at SHS. He was in the US Army Reserves for 25 years, including serving in the Persian Gulf War in Operation Desert Storm. He received the Bronze Star and Army Commendation medals. After retiring in 2005, he became a world-class wildlife carver. He has taught wildlife carving and won many awards. He was inducted into the Packer Sports Greats as an individual in 2017, as well as was inducted as a member of the 1960 and 1962 baseball teams and the 1963 metro football championship team. He is active in church, community and civic organizations. He credits teachers and coaches at SHS and UNO for giving him opportunities for success and the desire to serve others. |
