Dave was inducted into the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats in 2016.

High School Honors

• 8 letters: baseball, football, basketball
• 1959 All-City Baseball; Honorable Mention 1958

 
 Post High School

• Attended then Omaha University on a baseball scholarship
  
• Awarded the NAIA Freshman Pitcher of the Year 1960; honorable mention national NAIA All-Tournament in both 1960 and 1961 with a pitching record of 15-4
  
• Received free agent contract from NY Yankees in 1961, but did not sign.
  
• Purchased Hauff Sporting Goods with his brothers
