Class of 1972
Inducted in 2026 |
Evelyn was inducted into SHSAA Hall of Fame in 2026.
Evelyn graduated in 1972. She began her 35‑year career at United of Omaha and Mutual of Omaha just three days after graduation, first handling military life‑insurance policies before moving into group insurance work in customer service, accounting, and membership maintenance. From 2007 to 2009, she helped transition group insurance to Coventry Health Care, then spent 13 months seeking her next role before joining Boys Town National Research Hospital. She worked in the medical records department there for 14 years, retiring in 2024. During the 13 months she was not working, she began volunteering on a more regular basis. She volunteered at the VNA in 2010. From 2011 to 2019, she volunteered as a greeter in the maternity ward at Bergan Mercy Hospital. Another long-term volunteer event was the Summer Arts Festival. She put in many hours throughout the event’s weekend for the past 25 years. Her commitment was recognized when she was named their “Volunteer of the Year.” Evelyn became a volunteer with the South High Alumni Association within the first couple of years of its inception. She began attending the quarterly board meetings. In 2004 she was asked to join the Board of Directors, where she remains an active member. Evelyn was a member of the Spaghetti Dinner committee from 1996-2022. The dinner became a family volunteer event, and her husband, Dean, and daughter, Jodi assisted, even though they are not South graduates. Evelyn’s commitment to the Alumni Association has been one of care and commitment. Even through her personal health struggles, she has always been a member who shows up to help with the many events the association holds throughout the year. She is also one of the first members to support these endeavors through monetary donations or purchasing items to help with the events. |
