James was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 1991.

Mr. Fitl has made his mark in Omaha history as the president of Mid City Bank. He has held this position since July 1971. The only bank from the state of Nebraska, with bank size of 50 - 175 million dollars, to be honored in the list.

Mr. Fitl also provides leadership in the community by serving on the boards of Mid City Bank of Omaha; Security Bank of Pine Island, Minnesota; Credit Life Insurance Company of Omaha; and President's Advisory Council of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He further maintains membership in the Omaha Chamber of Commerce, Nebraska Bankers Association, First Baptist Church of Omaha, University of Nebraska at Lincoln Director's Award Program, and University of Nebraska at Omaha Chancellor's Club.

"South High gave me the fundamentals to receive an educational foundation for the future. The dedication and caring attitude of the teachers were key elements in molding students for the future. You learned to work together in organizations, clubs, and all types of situations with the students. Without a doubt, the learning experiences of your high school years follow you through your entire life - these are called the basic learning years. I'm proud to be a South High graduate."
