Kirk was was honored with the Merit Award the SHSAA Packer Sports Greats Athletic Hall of Fame in 2024.
After graduating in 1971, Kirk attended and wrestled for Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976 and accepted a teaching position at Papillion Junior High. He also coached football, wrestling and track. In 1980 he took a job as a teacher for Gretna High School and was also the head varsity football coach and assistant varsity wrestling coach. He was selected to serve as a coach for the 1995 Nebraska Shrine Football game. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1993 and was hired as Gretna High’s assistant principal and activities director. In 1999, he moved up to take the position of principal and retired at the end of the 2010 school year. Upon retirement, he served as Yutan High School’s varsity assistant football coach and a volunteer driver for Nebraska’s Disabled Veterans. He now spend most of his time fishing, traveling and chasing grandchildren. |
