Dr. Merle Curti

Class of 1931 - Inducted in 1989 
Dr. Curti was inducted into the SHSAA Hall of Fame in 1989.

Pulitzer Prize Historian for the book, Growth of American Thought, Dr. Curti holds an earned doctorate from Harvard College and more than 10 honorary doctorates.  He has held the presidencies of the Organization of American Historians and the American Historical Association. 

Dr. Curti has earned a special award for distinguished scholarship from the American Council of Learned Studies.  In addition, the University of Wisconsin has created the Dr. Merle Curti Professorship in his honor.  Dr. Curti has also held appointments at Smith College, Columbia University, Tokyo University, Melbourne University, and Cambridge.
