Joe Clark, a 1978 South graduate, has dedicated his life to serving South Omaha and honoring the school that shaped him. A standout athlete, he excelled in football and basketball and earned a state gold medal in the triple jump. He attended the University of South Dakota on scholarship to study criminal justice but returned home to care for his mother during her battle with cancer—a decision that reflects the loyalty and responsibility that continue to define him. Known as “Panther” in high school, Joe carried that pride into coaching youth softball, ensuring every child had a ride, a chance to play, and a supportive mentor. His community leadership grew as president of the Brown Park Neighborhood Association and Brown Park Patrol, where he launched initiatives like Dumpster Day, anti‑graffiti rewards, and the First Responders SAFE Program, which provided children with free bikes and helmets. Even after his presidency, he continued serving neighbors by mowing lawns, shoveling sidewalks, and assisting elderly residents. Joe’s service extended across Omaha through volunteer security at major cultural events, support for student‑athlete programs, and years of neighborhood patrols. His character shone brightest in 1997 when he helped lift a minivan off a trapped three‑year‑old boy—an act of bravery that made headlines and saved a life. Professionally, Joe built a respected career with the U.S. Postal Service, Kellogg’s, New Breed Logistics, Coca‑Cola, and now Per Mar Security, where he serves as a Security Officer Supervisor. He has represented coworkers through union leadership and earned multiple awards for service and leadership. He is also active in civic organizations including the American G.I. Forum, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Nebraska Neighborhood Alliance, and Omaha Coalition of Citizen Patrol. From the athletic fields of South High to decades of community leadership, quiet acts of service, and moments of true heroism, Joe Clark embodies dedication, pride, and compassion. |
